22:30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit ¹  on thrones judging ²  the twelve tribes of Israel.

The Parable of the Great Banquet

[22:30]  ¹ tn This verb is future indicative, and thus not subordinate to “grant” (διατίθεμαι, diatiqemai) as part of the result clause beginning with ἵνα ἔσθητε ({ina esqhte) at the beginning of v. 30. It is better understood as a predictive future.

[22:30]  ² sn The statement you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel looks at the future authority the Twelve will have when Jesus returns. They will share in Israel’s judgment.

[12:37]  ⁴ tn Or “watching”; Grk “awake,” but in context this is not just being awake but alert and looking out.

[14:15]  ¹¹ tn Grk “him”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[14:15]  ¹² tn Grk “whoever” (the indefinite relative pronoun). This has been translated as “everyone who” to conform to contemporary English style.

[14:15]  ¹³ tn Or “will dine”; Grk “eat bread.” This refers to those who enjoy the endless fellowship of God’s coming rule.

[14:15]  ¹⁴ sn The kingdom of God is a major theme of Jesus. It is a realm in which Jesus rules and to which those who trust him belong. See Luke 6:20; 11:20; 17:20-21.
